Stop-Motion Video
Part 1 of 4 - Gasoline Worm
Made as a response to an anti-trans meme my father shared on his facebook page, this light-painted stop-motion video represents a bizarro version of myself who, rather than deal with issues of gender identity and expression, erases his brain each day in order to cope. This is a character for whom I imagine my father may have more affection or in whom he may find a closer identification to his own ideas of acceptable gender expression than he does my own.

Part 2 of 4 - Guest Room
In the second part of this series, an imaginary version of myself who has found a way to express an alternative to gender norms, but only in secret.

Part 3 of 4 - Course Correction on the Stairs
This video depicts not a bizarro version of myself, but instead an actual moment from my life. Sometimes it is easier to squelch one's own expression than to violate the expectations of others. A decision-making process becomes apparent by the end of the film.

Part 4 of 4 - Merging/Emerging
In the final piece of this four-part series, my intention is to depict enlightenment through self-acceptance as avatars from disconnected ends of of my own gender expression spectrum merge into one being.

Brand Identity
The task of this assignment for Kess Silva's graphic design class was to create a vector logo and an accompanying full set of stationery to present to a client, The Comprehensive Health Initiative at Augusta University Health. For every aspect of the design, I selected colors and typefaces that were listed in the brand standards for the university and attempted to communicate the idea of what the initiative does through representative imagery. For example, because the organization considers itself a "hotspot" that draws together resources from throughout the hospital system, I wanted to show the cooperative nature of the enterprise through hands supporting one another. I also altered the height of the letter H at the beginning and end of the word "HEALTH" for a specific communicative purpose. Having chosen a serif typeface to lend the idea of stability, I wanted to extend that notion by enlarging the outer letters to abstractly represent the strength of columns. Elements of the logo are repeated at different scales and opacities throughout the design of the business card (front and back), letterhead and envelope to assure a cohesive brand message.
